The 8th World Association for Chinese Studies (WACS) Forum 2024 will be held in Poznań, Poland, and Prague, Czech Republic, from July 20th to July 22nd.

“United Digital Publications” is the only on-site exhibitor.

The conference topics are diverse and comprehensive, including modern Chinese history, Chinese literature research,  linguistics, intellectual history, and even the application of generative AI in Chinese teaching. The conference aims to promote academic exchange in Sinology between different cultures. It is a long-standing tradition of the conference to select 2 European cities as the venue each year. Besides academic discussions, the organizers hope to provide attendees with experiences such as strolling through ancient cities and enjoying dinners together, thus immersing them in cultural enrichment.

Representing UDP, Planning Editor Min Ling participated in the conference, engaging with scholars and gathering numerous suggestions on the application of databases. Approximately 10% of the presentations at the conference were related to AI, sparking UDP’s imagination regarding AI capabilities. UDP is currently planning to launch an AI translation feature on the TAC platform. This will allow the researchers who are unfamiliar with Chinese or foreign languages to quickly grasp the gist of foreign documents through the translation, bringing the research more convenience and contributing to Asian studies. Another related application, inspired by conference presentations, is the full-text search function of local chronicles, which can help scholars quickly retrieve information on obscure figures in research materials, providing more basic information for their research subjects.
