Biaodian Gujin Tushu Jicheng

The Complete Classics Collection of Ancient China

The “Gujin Tushu Jicheng” is a vast encyclopedic work written in China during the reigns of the Qing Dynasty emperors Kangxi and Yongzheng. It extensively collects the illustrations and writings of different disciplines, such as: astronomy, philosophy, agriculture, education, folk medical treatments, and so on. The collected materials also locate in a wide spectrum of time — from ancient China to Qing Dynasty (until 1725). Hence, it is acclaimed as the “Imperial Encyclopaedia” of Qing Dynasty. Since its compilation is 4 times larger than “Encyclopedia Britannica,” it’s also well-known as the largest encyclopedia in the world.

Biaodian Gujin Tushu Jicheng is the greatest encyclopedia of Chinese civilisation, and one of the most significant two ancient books of ancient China as well. (The other one is Xiku Quanshu. Both of them are regarded as the two pearls of Chinese category books.) The database published by UDP is not only the first punctuated version of its kind, but also one of the most popular digital version worldwide. It features full-text and full-image content, a clear and concise interface, a fast and precise search. All the searched keywords would be highlighted in the text. More than 100 institutions and prestigious universities around the world have subscribed this database to enrich their sinology collections.
